Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans Ingredients
- 1 pound, dried Navy beans
- 1 teaspoon, Baking soda
- 6 cups of Water
- 1 teaspoon, Salt
- 3 ounces ham / cooked bacon cut into pieces
- 1/4 cup, Dark brown sugar
- 1 medium onion, diced ( optional)
- 1 bay leaf ( optional)
- 3 tbsp ketchup (optional)
Instruction
Step 1
Put one teaspoon of baking soda into six cups of water
Step 2
Bring water to a boil. Make sure baking soda dissolved
Step 3
Make sure beans are free of debris. Here is a tip for you, soak the beans in normal water in 2-3 hours and discard beans that float.

Add Navy beans to the water

High heat and boil for approx 10 min.

Turn-off thee heat

Let get the pot covered

Let beans sit overnight. No need to worry, the beans will not get too flabby

Drain and rinse beans thoroughly with normal water. Check if the bean is creamy inside. At this step, you can preheat the oven to 375°F

In an oven-safe pot, put beans and all ingredients. Make sure that the pot comes with a lid that tightly fit

Just add enough to stir. Now cover the beans with water until they are covered nicely. Put on the lid

Bake at 300°F in approx 5-6 hrs. Check it out every hour and stir the beans. If they are dry, add some water. You can cover the beans with tin foil.

When it thickened means it’s done. At this point, the sauces are mostly reduced. Now place the pot on the table, serve hot or warm.
