I love vegetables. I can’t say for sure about others, but for me I cannot live without vegetables. Since I was a kid, my mom has cooked vegetables for us every meal. But, same as other kids, it was hard for her to convince us how good the vegetables were for our health. 

Few years ago, I had no idea what Brussel Sprout was since it was still some sort of exotic vegetable in my country at that time. I thought they were just super mini cabbage due to its looks. Until I really tried and tasted it, I realized that I was so wrong. I was regretting why It took me so long to have this yummy vegetable.

My first time trying, Brussel Sprout was the garnish on my steak. I always finish my dish clean, I mean anything edible served on my plate. And yah! Brussel surprisingly shocked me because of its taste. I loved it right away and decided to learn more ways to cook this cute vegetable.

How to make Longhorn Brussel Sprout?

Main ingredient is Brussel Sprout while the sauce is the spirit of the dish. A cutting knife, a pot, a mixing bowl and a roasting pan are all you need to prepare the ingredients. Total cooking time is 30 minutes. The Brussel Sprout needs to be roasted in the oven, don’t forget to preheat the oven before you get ready.

Now, read over the recipe to see how easy it is. For myself, I like only sprouts, it suits my vegetarian plan. But bacon, pancetta are also a good addition if you consider adding in some meat. All you need is just follow the instructions, it cannot fail.

Ingredients

  • 500 gram ( 1 lb) Brussels Sprout. The firm and even-colored is highly recommend
  • 2 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika paste 
  • 2 tablespoon Maple syrup 
  • 1 teaspoon sambal oelek
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt 

Instruction

Step 1

Preheat the oven at 350 F for 15 minutes. Cut away the stem with a cutting small knife, remove the brown or spoil leaves from the sprouts.

Step 2

Pour water into a pot, put 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring the water to a boil, put all the Brussel Sprout and boil in approx 3 minutes. Use the colander to drain the Sprout and cool in a bowl in 5 minutes. Cut them in halves lengthwise.

Step 3

Combine  Paprika paste, Maple Syrup, Sambal and Sea salt in a mixing bowl. Whisk well and stand aside 

Step 4

Once the Brussel Sprouts cool, place them on the roasting tray, drizzling them well with oil. Let roast in 15 minutes or until turn browned.

Step 5

Turn off the oven. When the Sprouts are still warm, pour the sauce that you prepared at step 3 and mix. 

Step 6

Taste again and put some additional spices you like and serve warm.
